All social media apps are overhauling the platforms through different experiments. Each day some new feature makes its way to one of these platforms. In the recent past, Instagram has added a number of new features to make the app more user-friendly. Last month, Instagram added the IGTV previews in the main feed followed by a step that moved it closer to the cross-platform with Facebook. It seems the streak for new features isn’t over for Instagram as there is a new feature being tested repeatedly. It appears to be a video-oriented cowatch content feature. Its code was discovered by Jane Manchun Wong, a reverse-engineering specialist.
It is not the first time we have seen a video-based feature in a leading social media application. Previously, a similar kind of unreleased feature was encoded in Facebook last year. The “Watch Video Together” feature of Facebook didn’t make it to the users. However, now that we have seen an Instagram cowatch content feature, it is safe to assume that a “watch videos together” feature is in the pipeline and may land soon. The case for instagram looks more promising as in the previous update the IGTV videos were pushed to the main feed. And the new Instagram cowatch content feature will give the IGTV a needed boost.
For now Instagram declined to make any comment on the feature, which isn’t surprising. In the past too, the company has denied the comments on its prototype features. It’s too soon to say anything on the release of this new feature. However, it does suggest one thing that we might see more in terms of integration between Facebook and Instagram.
