Twitter to Roll Out Hide Replies Feature Soon

Twitter is reportedly working on a new feature that will allow users to hide replies to their tweets. This new Twitter Hide Replies feature was noticed first by Jane Manchun Wong who revealed it in a tweet. The feature will give the users immense control over their conversations. What’s important to note here is that this feature wouldn’t let users hide the replies permanently, but actually makes it more difficult to see the original conversation. According to Michelle Yasmeen Haq, Twitter wants to balance the “balance the product experience between the original Tweeter and the audience.”

The working is simple, you will have to tap on the “share” icon and then choose “hide Tweet” to hide the replies to any tweet. Now for the users who want to read the replies, they will have to tap on a reveal option to see the replies. Also, it seems there would be an option to view/reopen the tweets that you’ve hidden previously. There is no denying that Twitter’s Hide Replies feature will help the users stop the controversial tweets. However, at the same time, this will help some bring down the critique against them. Here’s an embedded tweet from Jane to explain how the feature will work.

The feature is being tested at a time when Twitter is under immense pressure to improve the overall health of the conversations. With this new feature already in testing, it appears, Twitter is answering to the user calls. However, this Hide Replies feature is not the first of its kind as Twitter. Last year Twitter introduced a filtering strategy to hide disruptive tweets. Twitter had to come up with a new feature to improve the conversation health implies that it has a lot of catching up to do and it’s too soon to predict how users will perceive it.
