How to Enable Facebook Messenger Dark Mode Feature

In the recent past, Facebook has added a number of new features to Messenger to make it more appealing. The recent updates suggest that Facebook wants to overhaul its Messenger app. Last month the users received a WhatsApp like Unsend feature on their Messenger app. It was followed by a step in the cross-platform integration with Instagram. However, it seems the social media giant has much more to offer. Since last year’s F8 conference, Facebook has been teasing a dark mode feature to the Messenger users. While the reports suggested that Facebook is testing the feature, it seems the Facebook Messenger Dark mode feature is finally rolling out.

Facebook hasn’t announced the feature which is understandable since the feature was rumored to come out with iOS 13. However, it seems that Android users are a bit lucky to receive the Messenger Dark mode feature while it was expected to be in testing. Since Facebook hasn’t rolled out the dark mode feature to the users, you will have to enable it manually. The trick was first discovered by a Reddit user which 9to5Mac covered initially. You can easily get the Messenger Dark Mode feature without getting into complex settings. In fact, all you need is to moon someone to get it.

The trick is simple, all you need is to send someone a moon emoji (🌙). When you send the moon emoji, a message appears saying “you found Dark Mode”. Next, head over to the Messenger settings and turn On/Off the Dark Mode interface. However, note that the feature is still in the development phase. It is quite possible that it will not work properly.

At the moment, the feature is exclusive only to the Android users and hopefully soon will make it to the iOS users as well. This overhaul of the Messenger app is bringing in new features and users are receiving them happily. Therefore, it is safe to say that Facebook is on the right path as far as the Messenger features as concerned.
