Allo-Style Assistant Integration is coming

Google Allo app will soon end and with it the features that it acquired over time. However, all is not lost as Google has, in a recent announcement revealed that the Allo-style Google Assistant integration will soon make its way to the Android messaging app. In the coming months, you will see a Google Assistant button in the smart replies section of your Android messaging app. Google implemented a lot of new ideas in its Allo app and it was almost impossible to keep them out of other apps especially after the shutdown of Allo. At first, the Google Assistant feature will be limited only to the English users and will make its way to other users afterward.

Unlike Allo, there might be some changes as to how the feature will function in integration with the Messaging app. At the Mobile World Congress, Google pointed out that users will be able to call up Assistant at any point. All they have to do is to long press the home button within Messages. It also mentioned that Messages will rely on on-device AI to offer suggestions. And that company will only see information pertinent to suggestions, not the conversation itself. If executed properly, this feature could turn out to perform better in Messaging app than it was in Allo.

Allo will go away at the end of March. In the meantime, Google has started adding new features to its Messaging app. At the end of 2018, we saw a dark theme, then the spam protection feature made its way. All these new additions suggest that Google plans to make the Android Messages app a viable replacement. It’s too soon to say how Google Assistant will turn out for Android Message users. All we can do is to wait for it to roll out.
